The Pact

Wrote this for conference with Joe Lauinger my second semester, senior year at Sarah Lawrence. I largely penned it by hand during the rehearsal process for a play I was acting in, Vendetta Chrome by Sylvan Oswald. I played a ghostly figure, who was the last character to enter at 20 pages in or so. The play was arranged so that the audience sat on the stage, and we shut out the entire arena seating area with the stage curtains. During tech I had a lot of free time waiting in the dark and silent house, and wrote a melodramatic piece about a set of codependent young women, perhaps identical twins. I was also, at this time, deeply moved by Goethe’s The Sorrows of Young Werther and Elective Affinities. I feel that must have had something to do with something.
